Let’s Get Started: Meet Mackenzie

“You don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward.”

Hey! My name is Mackenzie Kimbro, and I do not have it all figured out, that’s for sure! I’m new to this whole blogging thing, but I have always loved writing and I have been inspired by some pretty awesome bloggers out there. In “Roots Run Deep: The Blog,” I hope to share my world with whoever wants to see it.

So, what is so special about my world, you ask? Well, let me tell ya!

I am a sixth-generation cattle rancher in southeast Arizona, and there is a serious love for beef in this girl’s heart! Another love of mine, though, is cooking. And I also love photography, and social media (see end of blog for more info). And beautiful Arizona. And family and friends, of course. And God. And AMERICA.

One of my favorite things to do on the ranch is rope calves in the branding corral!

I graduated from Douglas High School (Douglas, AZ – Go Bulldogs!) in May of 2014, where I had been actively involved in FFA, market steer production, sports management and other leadership organizations.

I have a deep-rooted passion for the beef cattle and culinary arts industries; and strive to build a career in which these two outstanding entities are intertwined. Like I said, I love ranching (and being a ranch cowboy!); and I appreciate every opportunity I have had over the years to become a better advocate for the cattle industry (currently serving as the 2015 Arizona Beef Ambassador and one of five serving on the 2015-2016 National Beef Ambassador Team…watch for a post about this amazing experience soon!).

I’m inspired by lots of people. Gotta love the Junk Gypsies in Texas. The Pioneer Woman in Oklahoma. Anybody out there who loves raising cattle, and/or eating beef, and/or sharing the beef story! And, of course, cowboys and cowgirls with lots of heart and grit (because really, we need to embrace both… Every cowboy who seems a little grumpy, but is really just weathered by life, will always take care of a sick calf or give a little extra time to his horses after a long day’s work).

As far as cooking goes, I really REALLY love it. I recently published a coffeetable cookbook, “Roots Run Deep: Our Ranching Tradition.” It’s all about our ranching life, with some history, stories, lots of photography and, of course, recipes! If you want to read more about it, or buy one (which I would really appreciate!), you can visit my website: http://www.colablancaproductions.com.

So that’s me in a nutshell… Life around here is never boring, so this blog won’t be either (I hope!). I really hope you will follow along with my journey as I share photos and stories about ranching, cooking, BEEF, and whatever else comes this way!

Here’s to good rains, great food, and healthy cattle,

~Kenzie
